Why Should I Get My AC Maintenanced?

When your AC breaks, you know it’s time to get it fixed. But you may forget to call a professional when it comes time for your regular servicing. This is a mistake for the following reasons:

1)   Regular service calls help an AC unit maintain its energy efficiency. Over time, your AC will grow less efficient. Luckily, each service call can increase your unit’s energy efficiency by up to 5%. The cost of a maintenance session more than makes up for itself because of the money you save on your energy bill.

2)   Regular service calls prolong your unit’s lifespan. An AC unit costs thousands of dollars, so you want to get as much use out of it as possible. Regular maintenance calls allow us to spot problems before they become irreparable.

How Often Should I Get My AC Maintenanced?

We recommend a yearly maintenance schedule for your AC unit.

If you have an HVAC, you should get it serviced twice a year: the AC should get serviced in the fall, while the heating system should get serviced in the spring.

This recommendation applies to both residential and commercial units.

How Often Should I Replace My AC Filter?

The answer to this question varies depending on your circumstances. A vacation home, for instance, may not need to get the filter replaced more than twice a year. A family with pets, on the other hand, will want to replace the filter every 30 or 60 days.

No matter what, we recommend replacing a residential air filter no less than once every six months. If the space is regularly occupied, it’s best to start replacing the filter every 90 days and determining the right schedule based on how dirty the filter is.

Most small businesses should change their filter once every 90 days, but restaurants and other high-traffic businesses will want to replace it once every 30-60 days.

Is There Anything I Can Do In-Between Service Calls to Increase the Longevity of My System?

A yearly maintenance schedule is designed for customers who are taking care of their unit already. This means regularly replacing your filter and cleaning out your AC if it gets clogged with leaves or debris.

The most important thing you can do to increase your AC’s lifespan is to pay attention to it. This will help you notice if it’s being clogged, this will help remind you when you need to replace the filter, and it’ll allow you to see if you need to call a technician outside your regular maintenance schedule.
