As expert plumbers in the Pasco area, we’ve seen it all. Our team has done everything from perform minor drain cleaning services to unclogging commercial lines. As a result, we are often asked “how often should I have my drains cleaned?” We will answer below.

1. Whenever You Need It

A clogged drain isn’t just an inconvenience. It can also be the sign of a more serious problem. Think about whatever is clogging your drain. It is likely growing larger and larger. What happens if it gets too large? In short, it can expand far enough to damage the pipe and possibly break it. As a result, your simple clog can become a huge issue. We advise all clogs be dealt with quickly and professionally.

2. Get Drains Cleaned if They Smell Funny

Blockage or a clog in your drain doesn’t always present itself in the form of slow or no draining water. All sorts of chemicals, build up, and even dead animals can enter a drain and contaminate it. In these cases, the issue will get worse before it gets better. Check your drains for a constant chemical, sulfur, decaying, or any other odd smell coming from your drain or drains.

3. Whenever the Plumber Comes By

You may have an unrelated issue that needs a plumbers attention, such as a water heater issue, fixture install, or other service. It isn’t a bad idea to have that plumber also check your drains and perform a cleaning when needed. You may also purchase a drain inspection camera and take images of your drains. Show your plumber the images to see what they recommend. In many cases, such as the fixture install, a drain cleaning for that particular item may be included.

4. If Certain Conditions are Present

Certain properties tend to clog more. For example, older homes have older pipes. As they age, they get build up, possibly change shape a bit, and it all adds up to drainage of poorer quality. Some businesses are also prone to clogged drains. For example, hair dressers and pet groomers are more susceptible to clogged drains given all the hair and products they work with. Many of these businesses and homes schedule drain cleaning on a regular basis in order to prevent clogs and the damage they can cause.
